Wells' First Montessori Classroom

6.20.2016

Sending Wells to Montessori for their half day Spanish infusion program has been one of the best decisions we've made. He started last September and just finished out the school year. In these months, I've seen him grow in several ways. He exudes independence, where I once called him completely dependent. He speaks to me in Spanish. His table manners have improved, although he's always been pretty good at the table. He shows more creativity in his play at home. Most importantly, I've seen his love for people, nature, and creative play grow. On weekends, he can't wait to get back to school and do his work. In my option and our experience, I love the Montessori method particularly for preschool age. It gives them an outlet with boundaries to foster their growth and express good energy with integrating basic practical life skills and education.

More often than not, I would drop Wells off and he would want to start his day by washing the windows. He talks to me often about preparing the food for snack time. His favorite is peeling boiled eggs. He is a bit obsessed with his classmates and at pick up is no where near ready to leave. We would talk on our way home about how exciting his day was. Then, he asks if we can go home to take a nap which he desperately loves and needs after his school day. Typically, he sleeping three hours in the afternoon and then we hit the beach or pool. These days were so special to this season of life.

Ted toured a Montessori school in Seattle and we can't wait to see what his next primary classroom holds to discover. His teachers here in St. Thomas are very loved and appreciated. After months of wondering if Wells would adjust, he slipped right in and enjoyed himself thoroughly. He speaks highly of his teachers. I am so grateful for their influence and attention to him.
