Island Family & Thanksgiving in St. Thomas

11.27.2015

Thanksgiving for me has always been about sharing a meal with people. The majority of my life I haven't had the opportunity to be with family. Growing up we spent several Thanksgivings feeding and eating with the homeless. Other years, I was adopted by many families. As a military couple, Ted and I now rarely make it home to for Thanksgiving. We have had so many warm welcomes over the years to enjoy this tradition meal with friends and their family. This year was just the same. Our island family extended open arms and we had countless invites for Thanksgiving. I wish we could have made each and every one of them!

Wells loved helping prep all the food that we ended up bringing over to our friends, Lucy and Adam's, house. We made several side dishes and pies to share. Thanksgiving morning, we went to Magen's Bay to run around and take a dip in the water. Our thought was to wear Wells out early and put him down for an early nap. Well, that didn't happen. He couldn't miss helping with food preparations. His absolute favorite thing to do right now is cook. Sometimes it can be frustrating when I'm trying to get dinner on the table, but cooking with him this festive meal, regardless if it took double the time, was special.

Mid afternoon, we went over their house and sat around catching up. Lucy just returned from Cambodia on Wednesday. While we was over there, she met some of our friends. How cool is that! We enjoyed a wonderful thanksgiving meal with full hearts and a pretty amazing view of Hull Bay.

I am so thankful for our island family and the life we have here in St. Thomas. It is truly special!
