Nursing basket: A tip to transition to mom of two

5.20.2015

While we were visiting Philadelphia, our friends mom was telling me a few tips that helped her transition from one child to two. One of her ideas was to have a special box for your toddler for times when you may have to breastfeed, comfort, bathe, or care for your newborn. In the box, you would be a surprise for your toddler to find when it is time to care for the baby. The items could be old or new for them to discover. It also could be a special treat. For instance, you may put a coloring page or book in the box, a car, play dough, a yummy gummy treat, ball, dvd, and/or etc.

The idea would be to rotate toys, activities, or snacks so that your toddler feels like it's special and exciting. Whatever your fill your box or basket with would need to be something your toddler can do by his or herself without mom's help.

It's a great way to rotate in old toys so that they seem fun and exciting again. Ideas from above are: Organic Pure Fruit leather, mirror blocks, play dough (if you trust your kid with it), a felt board, Mr. Potato Head, go fishing in the bathtub, and mess free coloring books. I thought it sounds like a good idea and I'll let you know when I give it a go.
